Delhi: 95-year-old woman, held captive by daughter-in-law, rescued
In a shocking incident, a 95-year-old woman, who was held captive by her daughter-in-law, was rescued by the Delhi Commission for Women on Friday. The son of the elderly, who was bed-ridden, informed the Commission about her condition. The complainant said he hadn't seen his mother for the last three months and every time he wanted to visit her, his wife didn't allow him.
After marriage, man and his wife never got along
The man revealed he and his wife were having a matrimonial discord since they got married. He claimed he had to seek the help of local police as his wife and in-laws prohibited him from meeting his mother. He said he gained confidence after he read a news that DCW helped a 50-year-old woman who was held captive by her brother for two years.
DCW entered the house after woman kept her terms
When DCW's team knocked on the woman's doors, she didn't let them enter. She had few terms. She wanted her husband to give in writing that he would never visit the house again, and the man obliged. About the rescue, DCW chief said, "I appeal to people if they see any woman being ill-treated, they should immediately contact the Commission at its helpline 181."
Rescued woman was in poor condition
The condition of the women appalled officers of the Commission. She was covered in a single piece of clothing and had to relieve herself in a bucket placed near the bed. The team called for an ambulance and shifted her to a hospital where the doctors informed her condition was serious and she needed to be treated immediately. Her son is looking after her.
