    Delhi woman falls off scooter; crushed to death by truck

    What's the story

    In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old woman died after being crushed to death in Delhi on Thursday.

    The deceased fell off a scooter after hitting a speed bump and was crushed by an oncoming truck.

    According to the news agency PTI, the police said that she was returning home from the GB Pant Hospital where her father had died earlier in the day.

    Woman was riding pillion; fell after vehicle hit speed breaker

    The PTI report identified the deceased as Swati, a resident of Rajbir Colony in the Kondli area of east Delhi.

    A senior police officer told PTI that she was traveling with her neighbor when their two-wheeler hit a speed breaker on Ghazipur Nala road near Chilla village.

    Swati, who was riding pillion, fell off and was crushed by a speeding truck, IANS reported.

    Aftermath

    Woman declared dead at hospital; truck driver fled

    Swati was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead, the officer told PTI.

    The driver of the truck fled the scene of the crime and has not been caught, he said.

    "The truck has been seized but the driver managed to escape. Efforts are underway to nab the driver," Deputy Commissioner of Police East Delhi Deepak Yadav told IANS.

    Case

    Case registered at Mayur Vihar Police station

    DCP Yadav said that a case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Mayur Vihar Police station.

    The police are now scanning footage from CCTV cameras in and around the scene of the incident to identify the perpetrator and ascertain the sequence of events that led to Swati's demise.
