Delhi: Mob lynches youth to death as others look on
In yet another case of mob lynching, a 22-year-old youth was beaten to death near Delhi's Azadpur Mandi for stealing Rs. 1,500. Rahul had made a last-ditch effort to save himself: he ran towards the crowded Adarsh Nagar railway station presumably in hope of help, but no one intervened. According to police, Rahul received critical internal injuries.
What happened?
Jahangirpuri resident Rahul was caught stealing Rs. 1,500 from a driver in wholesale market Azadpur Mandi. He recovered the money and started beating him. Others joined in as many traders looked on. Rahul managed to escape and run towards Adarsh Nagar station 200m away, but again, no one intervened. The group of men caught up, thrashed him and fled. Only then someone called police.
Three men arrested, more likely to be held
Rahul was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. "We have conducted raids in nearby areas and markets and rounded up a few men. The questioning led to the arrest of three men, identified as Ravi Kumar, Ravinder Singh and Lalit," said a police officer. Efforts are on to identify others involved and nab the guilty.
