Narcotics bureau extracts 106 cocaine capsules from Brazilian woman's stomach
On Monday, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested a 25-year-old Brazilian woman for allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine into India in 106 self-swallowed capsules. The woman, who had arrived from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was apprehended at the Delhi airport on 14th May, based on intelligence inputs. She spent the last week at the Safdarjung Hospital, where she was given laxatives to recover the cocaine.
The drugs were worth a whopping Rs. 5 crore
The 106 capsules recovered by the NCB contained 930 grams of pure Colombian cocaine - worth around $734,000 or Rs. 5cr. The woman allegedly got the consignment from the South American drug mafia, and was reportedly supposed to deliver it to a Nigerian national in Delhi. Police are currently on the lookout for the Nigerian.
The woman had been offered $5,000 for delivering the consignment
"The Nigerian national, who had to accept the consignment, was supposed to meet her in the hotel [at Karol Bagh]. The woman was promised $5,000 for successfully delivering the consignment of cocaine," said a senior NCB official.
The woman had visited India thrice before
On Sunday, after the drugs had been successfully recovered, the woman was made to appear before a trial court which sent her to the Tihar jail. NCB officials said that the woman, who was brought into the drug trade by her drug-dealing second husband, was a 'professional drug swallower' and had visited India at least three times before. Her last visit was in February.
Earlier, a Zimbabwean-woman was caught with drugs worth Rs. 15cr
The Brazilian woman has been charged under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Interestingly, there was a similar incident last month where a Zimbabwean woman, carrying three kilos of party drugs in her bag, was apprehended at the Delhi airport. She was reportedly trying to smuggle them to the Philippines via Goa. The drugs were worth Rs. 15cr.
