Video: Dehradun DM poses as liquor customer; what happened next
In a bid to address the persistent issue of liquor overpricing in Dehradun, District Magistrate Savin Bansal conducted a surprise inspection of local shops on Wednesday night. Posing as an ordinary customer, he visited stores on Old Mussoorie Road and Rajpur Road. Unbeknownst to the staff, he was sold alcohol at a higher price than its actual cost. Consequently, a challan of ₹50,000 was issued against the store.
Overpricing and other irregularities lead to heavy fine
The shop in question had charged the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer ₹680 for a bottle priced at ₹660. During the inspection, it was also discovered that the rate list was not displayed properly, making it difficult for customers to see prices clearly. Additionally, there were no clear indications of the shop's operating hours and employees had no identification cards.

DM Bansal's proactive approach to public service
This is not the first time Bansal has made headlines for his hands-on approach to public service. He recently conducted a surprise inspection at a government hospital in Dehradun, concealing his real identity. After observing chaos and disorder at the facility, he directed officials to improve its system. Additionally, Bansal was seen assessing the city's escalating traffic problem while riding a bike with SSP Ajay Singh as his passenger.
