Want to apply for PAN? Arrange these documents
What's the story
Applying for a Permanent Account Number (PAN) in India can be a tiresome task, especially when it comes to knowing which documents you need to submit.
This article, therefore, seeks to simplify the process by clearly outlining the documents required for various categories of applicants.
Be it an individual, a company, or a foreign entity, here's what documents to prepare for your application.
Individuals
Individual applicants: Essential documents
For applicants seeking PAN card, identity proof and address proof are essential.
Identity proofs can include Aadhaar card, voter ID card, passport or driving license.
For the address proof, documents such as utility bills (not older than three months) or bank account statements can be submitted.
Further, two recent passport-sized photographs are also required.
Companies
Companies: Document checklist
Companies also need to submit their certificate of registration issued by the Registrar of Companies as proof of identity and address.
They also have to provide details about their authorized signatory, like name and designation, on company letterhead.
It is important that these documents are certified by an authorized official.
Foreign entities
Foreign entities: Required documentation
Foreign entities applying for a PAN should submit their registration certificate in the country of incorporation.
They should also submit an attested copy of their tax identification number or equivalent document in that country.
The documents should be duly attested by the Indian embassy/consulate in that country.
Minors
Minors: Special considerations
For minors applying for a PAN card via their parents or guardians, more documents are needed.
Along with the minor's birth certificate as age proof, the guardian's proof of identity and address should also be submitted.
Two recent passport-sized photographs of the minor should also be sent along with the documents.
