Secrets about first marriage may have led to arguments: Police
An officer privy to the probe said Singhvi concealing facts about his first marriage may have led to arguments between them. They got married on February 23, 2016. Theirs was a love marriage. Batra allegedly 'jumped' from the terrace of her South Delhi home but her family claimed it was a murder. Her family said Singhvi harassed her ever since they got married.
Batra's family alleges Singhvi tortured her for dowry
Anissia Batra's family claimed Singhvi and his family tortured her for dowry. A flat in Vasant Vihar which Annisia sold for Rs. 1.2 crore in February was possibly a reason for friction between the couple, reports said. On Monday, Singhvi was arrested and sent to 14 days of judicial custody. "We will apply for his custody after recording statements of witnesses," an official said.
Meanwhile, deceased's family complain of laxity by police
Meanwhile, Batra's family was upset at the police as they informed them about Singhvi's hearing half an hour before her cremation. They claimed her brother couldn't even bid Batra goodbye. A friend of Batra claimed the police didn't arrest Singhvi's parents and alleged they were 'responsible' for her death. "His parents should be arrested because they have constantly instigated fights between them," she said.
"Singhvi's parents have been exempted from probe till July 20"
Addressing the complaints, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya said Singhvi's parents were exempted from the probe on personal grounds till July 20. They will be asked to join the investigation after that. Further, police are trying to learn about the argument which led to the incident. Police said before allegedly committing suicide, Anissia texted her husband 'he will see her dead face'.
