Sex racket operating from Delhi mall spa busted by DCW
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday claimed to have busted a sex racket, operating out of a spa inside a mall in North Delhi's Rohini area. DCW chief Swati Maliwal said she's already submitted a notice to the police making no arrests, and one to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, to ensure if they have received any other complaints about the spa.
Journalist conducted sting op; informed DCW
According to the DCW, on May 18, they received a call on their 181 helpline from a journalist, who discovered the spa and gathered evidence through covert operation. The journalist reportedly posed as a customer and recorded calls with the workers and the management of the spa, located in Rohini's City Centre Mall. The journalist was offered girls at different rates, DCW said.
'Why isn't MCD or police taking strict action,' asks Maliwal
"Prostitution is taking place big time in Delhi and many spas are becoming safe havens for it. I fail to understand why the MCD and police aren't taking strict action. Spa centers need to be regulated so that they don't run trafficking rackets," Maliwal said.
DCW, police found 11 girls with 'objectionable things' at spa
After the initial tip-off, a team of DCW workers arrived at the spa and informed the police. The DCW team and the police then found 11 girls inside the spa with "some objectionable things," the DCW said. The girls were taken to Prashant Vihar police station to have their statements recorded and register an FIR. However, DCW said, the police have made no arrests.
DCW to submit evidence for investigation
Speaking to PTI, a senior police officer confirmed that they are moving forward with an investigation into the operations of the spa. Additionally, the DCW also plans on submitting transcripts of conversations procured as evidence to aid with the investigation.
In April, Aman Vihar, DLF Phase 1 sex rackets busted
Meanwhile, in April this year, the DCW had uncovered another sex racket operating from a home in North Delhi's Aman Vihar, near Rohini. The police had arrested three women and the owner of the house, identified as Gautam. In the same month, police had arrested two women for allegedly running a sex racket from a spa based in DLF Phase 1.
