Delhi: Speeding Mercedes hits cyclist headed to work; killed instantly
A 35-year-old man was killed after a speeding Mercedes rammed into him in Delhi's Ashram area on Saturday. The victim, identified as Rajesh from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, was walking with his bicycle at the time of the accident. He died instantly due to the impact of the collision. The driver of the car fled from the scene but was later apprehended by police.
CCTV footage reveals high-speed collision
The incident took place near the Bhogal Flyover, as Rajesh was en route to his job. He worked as a gardener in Jor Bagh, a locality in South East Delhi. The family stated that the Mercedes, moving at an excessive speed, hit Rajesh from behind. Following the incident, an FIR was filed and a manhunt launched for the driver who had initially escaped.
Police launch investigation into fatal hit-and-run
Officials are currently examining CCTV footage as part of their investigation. The accused has been identified as Pradeep Gautam, a 45-year-old Noida resident, the police said. The car involved in the crash has also been seized by the authorities. The post-moretm of the victim will be conducted on Sunday.
