Buy cow-dung soaps, Modi kurtas online from RSS backed organization
An RSS-backed pharmacy is bringing dozens of products to Amazon, all laced with the goodness of 'gau'. The products include cow-dung soaps, Kamdhenu Ark (having digestive qualities), and 'Yogi' and 'Modi' kurtas. The products will be sold by Deen Dayal Dham, a center run by RSS. The online sale will begin in October and will have 30 products having therapeutic qualities. Here's more.
Have a look at the products the dham makes
The products which the Kamdhenu Gaushala Pharmacy makes are Ghanvati (a tonic meant for diabetes and obesity), Shoolbar oil, (for sprains, arthritis) shampoo, bath soaps, face packs, incense, etc. Dham's Deputy Secretary Manish Gupta, said all the products use cow urine as the main product. He explained, "We collect urine and dung from cows in our shed and use them in products as per the formulation."
If venture is successful, production will be increased
Currently, all the products are available offline and only at the Dham or RSS camps. But the sales have been decent. The Dham claims it sells medicinal products worth Rs. 1 lakh per month and apparel worth Rs. 3 lakh. RSS spokesperson Arun Kumar said the purpose of expanding sales was to create more jobs. If the venture is successful, production will be increased.
From 700kg to 1,200kg, sale of chyawanprash grew exponentially
As of now, the dham works with just 10 workers and a total of 90 cows and calves. A worker said in 2015, 700 kg of chyawanprash was sold, and it increased to 1,200 kg next year. Most of the products are sold before year-end.
Tailoring unit of dham benefits poor women
About the tailoring wing of the dham, Gupta explained it was started in 1980 to provide employment to poor men and women. The unit consists of 50 workers, mostly women, who get Rs. 150 per day for stitching two trousers. They get a sewing machine as a wedding gift. The kurtas are priced at Rs. 220. Notably, the Modi ones are longer than Yogi's.
