COVAXIN shipped to eleven cities in India: Bharat Biotech
Bharat Biotech, on Wednesday, said that it has successfully air-shipped its COVID-19 vaccine COVAXIN to eleven cities in India in the early hours. It has also donated 16.5 lakh doses to the Centre. The company expressed its deepest gratitude to the nation, all clinical trial volunteers, and its partners for making this a successful public-private partnership for the development of India's first COVID-19 vaccine.
55 lakh doses shipped to eleven cities around the country
After having received the government purchase order for 55 lakh doses, Bharat Biotech shipped the first batch of vaccines (each vial containing 20 doses) to Gannavaram (Vijayawada), Guwahati, Patna, Delhi, Kurukshetra, Bengaluru, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Chennai, and Lucknow in the early hours.
COVAXIN is India's completely indigenous COVID-19 vaccine
COVAXIN is a highly purified and inactivated two-dose SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, manufactured in a Vero cell manufacturing platform with an excellent safety track record of more than 300 million doses. It is India's completely indigenous COVID-19 vaccine, developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research and National Institute of Virology. The inactivated vaccine is developed and manufactured in Bharat Biotech's BSL-3 biocontainment facility.
First phase of the COVID-19 vaccination starts on January 16
"COVAXIN has received Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) and has been tested on thousands of people. It has negligible side-effects," Dr. VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, had earlier said. The two doses have to be administered within the time frame of 28 days and the effect will be seen after 14 days. First phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive will start on January 16.
