#WhatTheHealth: Doctors clueless about twins in womb, one baby dies
In an extreme case of medical negligence, a pregnant woman in Gurgaon lost one of her babies because doctors didn't know she was carrying twins. According to her husband, they had visited a private diagnostic clinic twice. But doctors at the Sohna Civil Hospital, where the delivery took place, said the ultrasound reports didn't mention twins, and they were caught unprepared during delivery.
Woman delivered a baby, then suddenly went into labor again
Hiranand Kumar and Meena visited a private clinic in Alipur village, in September and then in January. "The doctors there told me she's carrying one child," he said. On January 20, they rushed her to Sohna Civil Hospital when she had labor pains, and she delivered a girl. But minutes later, doctors discovered there was another baby when she went into labor again.
Couple has lodged a medical negligence complaint against the hospital
The doctors were caught unprepared and couldn't save the boy, but the mother was saved. They said the ultrasound reports didn't mention a second baby, but they "never conducted any ultrasound test" themselves, Kumar alleged. He has now lodged a medical negligence complaint against the hospital. Hospital authorities said they would form a board to probe the case.
