Cow to become India's national animal?
There's a new prospective contender for the post of national animal: the cow. Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind President Maulana Syed Arshad Madani has urged the government to consider this proposal, in the wake of an "atmosphere of fear" over cow vigilantes. At the same time, he reminded PM Narendra Modi about his promise to act against those assaulting people in the garb of 'gau raksha'.
Madani urges unambiguous laws for cow protection
Madani urged the Centre to consider making a cow protection law that removes ambiguity and prevents unjustified attacks on minorities. "These gau rakshaks are exploiting religion to loot and murder people. We respect the religious sentiments of our Hindu brethren, but no one can be allowed to take law and order into their own hands," he told reporters.
'Talaq a religious matter, only religious solution possible'
On the matter of triple talaq, Madani said it should ask opinions from Islamic scholars first. "Then (SC) may consider those solutions and give judgement. Such a judgement based on religious interpretation will be acceptable to us," he said. Madani added, "The way triple talaq is being talked about, it appears as though there are divorced women in every household."
