Coronavirus: India's tally reaches 11.55 million with 40K+ new cases
India on Friday reported more than 40,000 fresh coronavirus infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 11.55 million cases. Meanwhile, at least 180 more patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 1,59,613. Maharashtra, which is the worst-hit state in India, continued to report a high daily positivity rate in coronavirus infections. Here are more updates.
Health Ministry confirms 1,15,14,331 COVID-19 cases, 1,59,370 deaths
Till Friday morning, the Health Ministry had reported 1,15,14,331 COVID-19 cases, including 1,59,370 deaths, 2,71,282 active cases, and 1,10,83,679 recoveries. According to data compiled from state/UT statistics, India reported 1,15,54,905 cases and 1,59,613 deaths till Friday night. Over 11.1 million have recovered. 4,11,55,978 people were vaccinated in India till 7 pm on Friday and a total of 18,16,161 beneficiaries were vaccinated on the day.

Maharashtra: 24,22,021 total cases, 53,208 deaths, 21,89,965 recoveries. Kerala: 11,00,275 total cases, 4,467 deaths, 10,70,343 recoveries. Karnataka: 9,66,689 total cases, 12,425 deaths, 9,42,178 recoveries. Andhra Pradesh: 8,92,986 total cases, 7,187 deaths, 8,83,890 recoveries. Tamil Nadu: 8,64,450 total cases, 12,582 deaths, 8,45,178 recoveries. Delhi: 6,46,348 total cases, 10,953 deaths, 6,32,230 recoveries. Uttar Pradesh: 6,06,609 total cases, 8,757 deaths, 5,95,382 recoveries.
25K new cases in Maharashtra; Karnataka reports 1.5K fresh infections
25,681 more people tested positive in Maharashtra with 1,27,147 tests on Friday. At 20.1%, the state continued to record a high daily positivity rate. Karnataka reported 1,587 new cases. Gujarat reported 1,415 new cases, pushing the state's tally to 2,83,864, which includes 4,437 deaths and 2,73,280 recoveries. 1,140 new cases took Madhya Pradesh's tally to 2,73,097, which includes 3,901 deaths and 2,62,587 recoveries.
Delhi reports 716 more cases; 2.3K fresh infections in Punjab
716 more people tested positive in Delhi. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.92% with 77,352 tests conducted on Friday. Punjab reported a spike of 2,490 new cases, pushing the state's tally to 2,07,888. 6,242 patients have died in the state while 1,86,187 have recovered. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh reported 1,984, 1,087, 393, and 246 new cases respectively.
