Coronavirus: India's tally reaches 11.51 million with 40K+ new cases
India on Thursday reported more than 40,000 fresh coronavirus infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 11.51 million cases. Meanwhile, at least 150 more patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 1,59,425. Maharashtra, which is the worst-hit state in India, continued to report a high daily positivity rate in coronavirus infections. Here are more updates.
Health Ministry confirms 1,14,74,605 COVID-19 cases, 1,59,216 deaths
Till Thursday morning, the Health Ministry had reported 1,14,74,605 COVID-19 cases, including 1,59,216 deaths, 2,52,364 active cases, and 1,10,63,025 recoveries. According to data compiled from state/UT statistics, India reported 1,15,14,799 cases and 1,59,425 deaths till Thursday night. Over 11 million have recovered. 3,89,20,259 people were vaccinated in India till 7 pm on Thursday and a total of 17,83,303 beneficiaries were vaccinated on the day.

Maharashtra: 23,96,340 total cases, 53,138 deaths, 21,75,565 recoveries. Kerala: 10,98,291 total cases, 4,450 deaths, 10,68,378 recoveries. Karnataka: 9,65,102 total cases, 12,415 deaths, 9,41,309 recoveries. Andhra Pradesh: 8,92,740 total cases, 7,186 deaths, 8,83,759 recoveries. Tamil Nadu: 8,63,363 total cases, 12,573 deaths, 8,44,568 recoveries. Delhi: 6,45,632 total cases, 10,949 deaths, 6,31,759 recoveries. Uttar Pradesh: 6,06,229 total cases, 8,753 deaths, 5,95,259 recoveries.
25K new cases in Maharashtra; Karnataka reports 1.5K fresh infections
25,833 more people tested positive in Maharashtra with 1,21,335 tests on Thursday. At 21.3%, the state continued to record a high daily positivity rate. Karnataka reported 1,488 new cases. Gujarat reported 1,276 new cases, pushing the state's tally to 2,82,449, which includes 4,433 deaths and 2,72,332 recoveries. 917 new cases took Madhya Pradesh's tally to 2,71,957, which includes 3,894 deaths and 2,62,031 recoveries.
Delhi reports 607 more cases; 2.3K fresh infections in Punjab
607 more people tested positive in Delhi. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.75% with 80,253 tests conducted on Thursday. Punjab reported a spike of 2,387 new cases, pushing the state's tally to 2,05,418. 6,204 patients have died in the state while 1,84,848 have recovered. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh reported 1,899, 989, 321, and 218 new cases respectively.
