Coronavirus: India reports biggest single-day spike with 1.85L new cases
India on Tuesday reported roughly 1.85 lakh fresh coronavirus infections, marking the biggest single-day spike yet for the sixth consecutive day. The nationwide tally climbed past 13.8 million cases. Meanwhile, more than 1,000 more patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 1,72,135. Maharashtra—the worst-hit state in India—continued to report a high daily positivity rate in coronavirus infections.
Health Ministry confirms 1,36,89,453 COVID-19 cases, 1,71,058 deaths
Till Tuesday morning, the Health Ministry had reported 1,36,89,453 COVID-19 cases, including 1,71,058 deaths, 12,64,698 active cases, and 1,22,53,697 recoveries. According to data compiled from state/UT statistics, India reported 1,38,71,321 cases and 1,72,135 deaths till Tuesday night. Over 12.3 million have recovered. 11,10,33,925 vaccine doses were administered in India till 8 pm on Tuesday and 25,00,883 doses were given on the day.

Maharashtra: 35,19,208 total cases, 58,526 deaths, 28,66,097 recoveries. Kerala: 11,80,397 total cases, 4,814 deaths, 11,23,133 recoveries. Karnataka: 10,83,647 total cases, 13,008 deaths, 9,80,519 recoveries. Tamil Nadu: 9,47,129 total cases, 12,945 deaths, 8,84,199 recoveries. Andhra Pradesh: 9,32,892 total cases, 7,321 deaths, 8,99,721 recoveries. Delhi: 7,50,156 total cases, 11,436 deaths, 6,95,210 recoveries. Uttar Pradesh: 7,23,582 total cases, 9,309 deaths, 6,18,293 recoveries.
These states recorded their biggest spikes
Madhya Pradesh reported 8,998 new cases, pushing the tally to 3,53,632, which includes 4,261 deaths and 3,05,832 recoveries. Delhi reported 13,468 new cases, while Uttar Pradesh 18,021 fresh infections. 15,121 new cases brought Chhattisgarh's total caseload to 4,71,994 infections, including 5,187 deaths and 3,57,668 recoveries Gujarat added 6,690 new cases on Tuesday, pushing the tally to 3,60,206, which includes 4,922 deaths and 3,20,729 recoveries.
Maharashtra reports 60K more cases; 3K fresh infections in Chhattisgarh
60,212 more people tested positive in Maharashtra, while Karnataka reported 8,778 new cases. Punjab reported 3,003 new cases pushing the state's tally to 2,79,203. 7,609 patients have died in the state, while 2,43,410 patients have recovered. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh reported 7,515 (10.2% positivity rate), 6,984 (8.4%), and 4,228 (11.8%) new cases respectively.
