CISCE postpones ICSE Class X, ISC Class XII board exams
The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) on Friday announced that it has decided to postpone the board examinations for Classes X and XII in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. The new dates for the exams will be announced in the first week of June. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and several other state boards have already postponed/suspended examinations.
COVID-19 situation will be closely monitored: CISCE
The CISCE said, "In light of the nationwide surge in COVID-19 cases, the CISCE has decided to defer the ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) board examinations scheduled to be held from May 4, 2021." The COVID-19 situation will be closely monitored and a final decision on the conduct of the exams will be taken by the first week of June, it added.
ICSE Class X exams optional
While the Class XII examination will be conducted at a later date, the candidates for the Class X examination will be allowed to opt against writing the offline examination if they chose to do so. For Class X candidates opting against a written exam, the CISCE will develop a "fair and unbiased criterion" while preparing the results, said the statement.
CISCE had canceled 2020 exams; adopted alternative grading scheme
The CISCE had canceled the exams last year. The board had assessed the students on the basis of three parameters: an average of marks obtained in the exams held till then, subject practical, and internal assessment. It is expected to follow the same assessment pattern for Class X candidates opting against a written examination this year, however, there is no official confirmation yet.
CBSE canceled Class X exams; deferred Class XII exams
In fact, this week, the CBSE had decided to cancel the board examinations for candidates of Class X and deferred the exams for Class XII candidates. The exams for students of both classes were scheduled to begin on May 4. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh state boards have either canceled board exams or have deferred the dates.
