Salman Khurshid 'thrown out' from Islam for worshipping Lord Ram
Former Union minister and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid has been 'ousted' from Islam by the Darul Uloom Deoband. The action was taken after photos and videos of Khurshid performing Aarti of Lord Ram went viral on social media. This incident was preceded by the ousting of about a dozen Muslim women in Varanasi who were allegedly worshipping Lord Ram on Diwali.
The Ulema discourages 'un-Islamic' acts
Darul Uloom Deoband's Ulema Mufti Tariq Kashmi said that Khurshid's actions were 'un-Islamic' as the religion forbids worship of other gods, as well as idol worship. The Ulema urged Khurshid to repent before Allah and "read Kalma" if he wished to be accepted back into Islam. He also warned Muslims in general to stay away from acts which are 'un-Islamic'.

Muslim Women Foundation chairperson demands ban on Darul Uloom Deoband
The Darul Uloom Deoband had earlier ousted around a dozen women in Varanasi from Islam for indulging in the worship of Lord Ram. Following the expulsion, the Chairperson of the Muslim Women Foundation, Nazneen Ansari, had accused the Darul Uloom Deoband for spreading communal hatred and had demanded a ban on them.
