Woman, confined for 5 years by parents, to remarry ex-husband
A 30-year-old woman, who was forcibly confined by her parents, will soon marry her former husband after being rescued from Gurugram. The woman was confined at her parent's home for the last five years, as she married a man whom her parents didn't approve of. She was called to her home under the pretext of a lie that her mother had a cardiac arrest.
They married in 2011, didn't reveal it
The woman married her husband, who worked at an MNC, in 2011. They registered their marriage in Jaipur and kept it a secret from their families fearing their wrath. In November 2011, the husband went to her house with a formal marriage proposal but was refused. The woman's parents threatened to kill her if she thought of marrying him, unknowing she already had.
She was told her mother was ill, was confined later
When they failed to convince their parents, the couple ran off together in January 2013. They had barely lived together when woman's relative called her to inform her mother suffered a cardiac arrest. She rushed to her parents' home and was confined there. Her parents managed to get an ex-parte divorce for the couple. The woman tried escaping on October 23 but was caught.
After years of separation, couple to remarry
On October 23, she called DCW Helpline Number's 181. A team went to her home, and she was rescued. "After the rescue, the woman was kept at a safe house till she was produced in court and provided protection," DCW's official statement read. She will remarry her husband after seven years, the official added. A Gurugram-court ordered the police to provide protection to them.
