An FIR has been lodged against the cold-storage owner
"Two laborers were killed and as many are undergoing treatment after the chamber exploded following leakage of gas," Chandra said. An FIR has been lodged against the cold-storage owner, Santosh Kumar Pandey, and it has been sealed, the official said. Following the incident, 60 thousand sacks of potatoes kept in cold storage were also wasted.
The deceased were residents of Sitapur district
The deceased were identified as Mishrilal (28) and Dharmendra (27) -- residents of Sitapur district. Two others -- Paramanda and Vinod -- are undergoing treatment at King George's Medical University, where their condition was stated to be stable, the SDM added.
A similar case was reported in Kanpur in 2017
A similar case was reported in Shivrajpur town of Kanpur in 2017, where an explosion claimed five lives and the cold-storage did not have a license. Three people, including its owner, had been booked. Ammonia leakage from its gas chamber reportedly led to the explosion that caused a part of the building's structure to fall.
