Delhi: Schoolmates assault Class 11 boy to death over "enmity"
A 17-year-old Class 11 student was allegedly beaten to death by a group of students, including his classmates, in Delhi's Jyoti Nagar over some "personal enmity," police said yesterday. A case of murder has been registered and two juveniles nabbed. The boy had reportedly come to collect his transfer certificate, when the accused saw him. They then decided to beat their old "enemy" once more.
Gaurav had come with his mother, but she had left
According to The Tribune, Gaurav had come to school with his mother, but as it was getting late, he sent her home. While he was waiting, the accused approached and led him to a nearby park. There, they assaulted him severely and fled. His cousin, studying in the same school, found out and informed his family. They rushed him to hospital, but he was declared brought dead.
School staff, students being questioned
Police have confirmed that it was "some old fight between the students that led to (the) clash," but are still figuring out the exact nature of the enmity. The vice-principal of the victim's school said "at least one person" among the accused was Gaurav's classmate, who had been absent for 15 days. School staff and other students are now being questioned.
Sharp rise in violence among students in recent times
The incident has thrown light once again on the rising cases of violence among students. In February this year, a teenager was beaten to death inside a school toilet by his fellow students in a Delhi school. Last month, a student of a Vadodara school stabbed his Class 9 junior to death inside a toilet over some dispute.
