Boy who died during #Class10Exams scores high in 3 papers
Wheelchair-bound Vinayak Sreedhar, a Class-10 student from Noida who idolized British physicist-cosmologist Stephen Hawking, wanted to top the CBSE board exams. But sadly, he passed away in March before he could do so and appeared only for three out of five papers. However, according to the Class-10 results released on Monday, he scored nearly 100 marks in the papers he appeared for. Here's more.
Vinayak scored 100 in the English paper
Vinayak scored 100 in English, 97 in Sanskrit, and 96 in Science but couldn't appear for Computer Science and Social Studies papers. Apart from topping the CBSE Class-10 board exams, becoming an astronaut and taking a trip to Tamil Nadu's Rameswaram are his unfulfilled wishes.
Was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)
Vinayak was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) at the age of two. DMD is a genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Absence of dystrophin, a protein that keeps muscle cells intact, causes DMD. Despite the disorder, Vinayak, a student of Noida's Amity International School, appeared for exams under the general category and not under Children With Special Needs (CWSN) category.
Vinayak's muscular movement was very limited: His mother
"His (Vinayak's) muscular movement was very limited. He could write slowly but since there is a time duration for exams he used a scribe to write English and Science exam. For Sanskrit, he insisted to write himself," his mother Mamta Sreedhar said. "His body movement was restricted and he was wheelchair-bound, but his mind was very sharp and aspirations very high," she added.
Vinayak idolized British physicist Stephen Hawking
"He (Vinayak) was confident...he will be among top rankers. We were always amazed with his confidence and would encourage him further," Mamta said. "He would always say I want to become an astronaut...if Stephen Hawking could go to Oxford and make a name in cosmology I can go to space too," she added. Hawking suffered from Lou Gehrig's disease, a motor neuron disease.
Vinayak wanted to visit Rameswaram after board exams
Vinayak wanted to visit the Rameswaram temple near Kanyakumari after board exams. "We are today in Rameshwaram and are going for darshan in the evening. It was his unfulfilled wish so we decided to not postpone the plans and do it for him," Mamta said.
