For revealing identity of assaulted Dalit teens, RaGa gets notice
Congress President Rahul Gandhi has been served with showcause notice by Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) for sharing the video of Dalit teens being beaten in Maharashtra village a few days ago. The MSCPCR acted on a complaint by a Mumbai resident. Congress said it was an attempt by ruling Bharatiya Janata Party to divert attention from Dalit atrocities.
Along with Rahul Gandhi, notice sent to Twitter as well
The child rights body also sent a notice to Twitter. Both Gandhi and the social media giant have ten days to respond to the notice. Pravin Ghuge, chairperson, MSCPCR said Gandhi violated sections related to Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act. The video, which was shared on Twitter on May 15, has not been deleted.
Congress says BJP trying to divert attention
"It's a deliberate attempt made by the BJP to divert the attention of the people from the real issue - atrocities on Dalits have risen," said Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant. The video showed two Dalits being beaten and paraded for bathing in well.
