Chhattisgarh: Boyfriend forced to watch girlfriend's gang-rape, commits suicide
A 19-year-old allegedly took his own life in Chhattisgarh's Korba district after his minor girlfriend was gangraped, earlier this month. It is suspected the boy committed suicide after he was forced to watch the men raping his girlfriend. It came to light when the rape victim approached police and narrated the incident. The accused men were arrested on Thursday. Here's more.
Men stopped duo while going home, beat boy, raped girl
SP Korba Mayank Shrivasatva said the rape happened on September 1, when the boy Sawan Sai, and the girl were returning home from a local market. On their way back, two men Ishwar Das and Khem, both residents of the same village, stopped them and raised objection over them roaming alone. The two then thrashed Sai and raped the girl, near a school.
Ridden by guilt, Sai committed suicide, says police
Reportedly, Sai learnt that the accused told some of the men in the village about the incident. Police said he committed suicide, two days later, after being ridden with guilt. Sai was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his residence. "On Wednesday, the girl reached the police station and narrated the whole incident and told the reason behind Sai's suicide," the SP said.
Accused were arrested on Thursday, further investigation underway
On the basis of the victim's complaint, police registered a case under the POCSO Act and IPC Section 306 (abetment of suicide). The duo was arrested on Thursday, and further investigation is underway. Notably, Sai's family didn't inform the police about his death.
