Chhattisgarh: Blast in Bhilai Steel Plant kills 6, injures 14
On Tuesday, 6 workers died and 14 were injured after a gas pipeline blast at the steel plant in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh's Durg district. A local police official said the blast took place near coke oven section of the plant. A police team and rescue team rushed to the spot to help the injured. The victims were rushed to a local hospital.
State-run SAIL operated the plant
The plant is run by state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Notably, in November last year, 43 people lost their lives after a blast at National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited plant at Unchahar in Uttar Pradesh. Back then, the inquiry team formed to investigate the matter blamed it on staff's negligence. It was learned they ignored 'basic principles of mechanical science'.
