Heavy rains lashed Chennai once again yesterday, leading to waterlogged roads and inundation. Schools in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram have been declared closed. They had reopened only last Tuesday after having stayed shut for a week. Chennai battled one of the worst monsoons last month. Daily life was severely disrupted. Yesterday, the met department predicted more rains as the northeast monsoon turns active again.

According to the met department, rainfall this time will be concentrated in the coastal districts in the north and south. Interior districts will receive intermittent showers. 12 died in the first spell, 'people unaffected' said CM
The first spell of monsoon sent Chennai reeling. At least 12 died. Chennai recorded 183mm rainfall on November 2, the third-highest rainfall in its history in a single day for the month. Schools in Chennai and other coastal towns remain closed for days. TN has received 25cm of rainfall since October compared to its normal of 26cm. However, CM Palaniswami insisted "people are unaffected".
