Medical-college for Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli approved
The Center has approved to set up the first medical college for Union Territories of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH). Union government allocated Rs. 189cr for the construction of medical college, which will come up at Sayli in Silvassa (capital of DNH) and will start functioning from the academic year 2019-20, said Praful Patel, the administrator of the two UTs.
50 seats in medical college reserved for local students
Out of 100 seats to be offered by the college, 50 each will be reserved for students from the two UTs. "Ever since Daman and Diu was liberated from the Portuguese rule in 1961, its people were demanding a medical college," Patel said. The construction will begin soon and Home ministry officials will check the progress of the college every three months, he added.
