CBSE Class-10, 12 exams: Students to be compensated for errors
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has successfully concluded both secondary and higher secondary examinations for 2019. Although the examinations this year were free from any leaks, several irregularities were reported in many papers of both Class X and Class XII. CBSE has said that in case an error is confirmed, students would be duly compensated.
Board will direct lenient checking in case of error confirmation
While talking to Indian Express, the Board informed that they would set up a committee to look into the question papers of all the exams in which errors were reported. The Board will direct lenient checking for those papers. Notably, errors were reported in four papers of Class XII and two papers of Class X. The errors included misprints and out of syllabus questions.
Internal choice led to confusion in Class XII English exam
The first error (out of syllabus question) was reported by the students in Class XII English exam. As per the syllabus, the school had an internal choice to teach either of the two novels, 'Invisible Man' or 'Silas Marner', as part of the curriculum. However, in some sets, questions of 6 marks each came from both the novels without any choice for the students.
Accountancy paper reported printing error, while students want Physics' re-exam
Further, Class XII Accountancy paper had multiple printing errors. One of the questions in set 3, read realization account instead of revaluation account. Students reported that some questions in the Hindi translation missed entries, unlike English questions. Meanwhile, students started an online petition for re-exam and raised requests for lenient marking for Class XII Physics exam as it was rated the toughest paper.
Translation error in questions in Mathematics paper created ruckus
Class XII Mathematics exam confused students as a six marks integration question in one of the sets asked to calculate two different areas. While question in English asked them to calculate area 'above' the X-axis, Hindi one asked for area 'around' X-axis (both the questions require different procedure). Meanwhile, in all the other sets, students were asked to find the area around X-axis.
Class X Hindi and Kannada papers also had issues
Further, two papers, Hindi and Kannada, of Class X had errors. The Hindi exam misprinted the name of a poem, 'Atmatraan' as 'Aamantran'. However, the correction was announced at the examination centers. The students have alleged that Class X Kannada paper had out of syllabus questions worth 20 marks and are now demanding 15-20 grace marks for those questions.
