CBI asks Kolkata rape-murder accused 10 questions in polygraph test
Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, reportedly denied any involvement during a polygraph test conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). India Today reported that he was asked 10 questions during his polygraph test on August 25 at Kolkata's Presidency Central Jail. Three polygraph experts and the investigating officer of the probe agency were present during this test.
Roy's polygraph test and initial confession
During the test, he claimed the victim was already dead when he saw her. "I didn't commit the murder. I escaped from the seminar hall after just seeing the dead body," Roy told the CBI during the test, sources told India Today. However, many of his answers were reportedly flagged as false and unconvincing. The CBI arrested Roy on August 10 based on CCTV footage and finding his Bluetooth headset inside the seminar hall where the incident took place.
Roy maintains innocence, investigation nears completion
The CBI has identified Roy as the sole suspect in this case and ruled out the possibility of gang-rape. The agency is now preparing to file charges against him as their investigation reaches its "final stages." Over 100 statements have been recorded and 10 polygraph tests conducted so far in this case. A medical report containing Roy's DNA has been sent to AIIMS Delhi for further examination.
Forensic evidence and Roy's behavior in custody
Forensic tests have reportedly returned results unfavorable for Roy, with his DNA matching samples collected from the victim's body. This evidence rules out any other person's involvement in the crime, CBI insiders told News18. Meanwhile, Roy remains in a high-security ward at Presidency Jail where he is largely isolated and appears nervous, exhibiting signs of fear according to prison officials.
