Gurugram accident: Video shows the moment biker collided with SUV
A 23-year-old motorcyclist, Akshat Garg from Pochanpur in New Delhi's Dwarka, was killed in a head-on collision on Golf Course Road in DLF Phase II, Gurugram. The accident took place around 5:45am on Sunday when a black SUV traveling the wrong way collided with Garg's motorcycle. Despite wearing safety gear including a helmet and gloves, Garg succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Eyewitness account of fatal collision
The entire incident was captured on a GoPro camera by Garg's friend, 22-year-old Pradyuman Kumar, who was riding behind him on another motorcycle. The footage shows Garg speeding and attempting to make a turn when he was hit by the SUV. "Neither the car driver nor Garg had any chance to avoid the collision," said a senior police officer. "The impact flung Garg above the car, and his motorcycle was mangled beyond recognition," he added.

Driver arrested and charged
The driver of the SUV, Kuldeep Kumar Thakur, was arrested at the scene by Gurugram Police. An FIR was registered against him under several sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, including causing death by negligence and rash driving. Thakur, a Delhi resident who owns a firm handling social media campaigns for elections, claimed he was following directions from Google Maps at the time of the accident. He has since been granted bail.
Eyewitness criticizes police response
According to the Times of India, Kumar, who witnessed the accident, said "The SUV also had a sticker of a BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party] candidate. Police didn't accept footage of the accident recorded by my GoPro camera...as evidence." "They soon released Thakur on bail...probably due to his political connections," he said. He said that there were two men in their mid-20s and a dog inside the car at the time of the accident.
