    What's the story

The prestigious CAT exam will take place on November 25, 2018.

The highly competitive, management-aptitude test is the gateway to major B-schools of India.

Obviously, less than 1% of the test-takers can score 99+ percentile, and they sure have gotten something right about their preparation.

Here are handy CAT preparation tips from 99+ percentilers.

    Strategy, Accuracy

Come up with a prep strategy; focus on point-blank accuracy

Formulate a strategy: The first and foremost priority of any CAT aspirant should be to come up with a self-suited preparation strategy based on their own strengths and weaknesses, and stick to it throughout their preparation.

Accuracy: One doesn't simply score 99+ percentile out of guesswork- accuracy has to be the key. Notably, top CAT scorers only answer questions they are 100% confident about.

    Attempt

Don't attempt all the questions, focus on accuracy, time management

It is important to note that 99 percentilers don't go about answering all the questions in the exam, instead they focus on accuracy and time management.

On an average, a 99 percentiler answers minimum 23 out 34 QA Section questions, 22 out of 34 DILR questions, and 20 out of 34 VRC Section questions.

But, don't take this as a thumb rule.

    Information

The importance of time management for becoming a CAT topper

The CAT exam has a sectional time limit of 60 minutes for each section (3 hours in all). Aspirants must be able to manage their time well, and enhance their speed as much as possible. This augments one's chances of cracking the exam.

    Practice, Smart act

Constantly analyze your performance; act smart on test day

Mock tests and performance analysis: It is advisable to regularly practise mock tests and previous years' papers to improve your preparation, and also analyze your performance after every test.

Act smart on test day: Taking smart decisions on the D-day is vital. Never waste much time on a single problem. If stuck, move on. Also, mind the negative marking, and focus on accuracy.
