ISRO releases footage from camera onboard GSAT-6A
In another exemplary achievement, ISRO successfully put the communication satellite GSAT-6A into the orbit on Thursday. Hours after the successful launch, the space agency released video of footage captured by cameras on board. The 1.41 minutes long video shows the satellite being carried by GSLV vehicle, before the launch, in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. One can also hear the countdown sequence in the video.
What's GSAT-6A and why is the launch a big deal?
GSAT-6A is a 2,140 kg satellite meant to provide mobile communication through hand-held ground terminals. It marks the fifth consecutive success for a GSLV using an indigenous cryogenic upper stage engine to launch a satellite in GTO. It has given a major boost to India's second moon mission at the end of this year- sending 3,290kg Chandrayaan 2 to orbit the moon.
What the video released by ISRO tells us
From the communication satellite being moved in GSLV MK-II rocket to the launch pad, to its separation from the vehicle almost seventeen minutes later, the video shows it all. You can watch it here. The scientists at ISRO burst out in celebrations after the launch and marked the first successful project under new ISRO chairman K Sivan.
