After handler dies, depressed camel refuses to eat or drink
A pet's love is incomparable and everlasting. This camel in Gujarat truly proves the aforesaid statement. After its handler died in January, it has started rejecting food and water. The camel's handler, Assistant sub-inspector, Shivraj Gadhvi, suffered a heart attack while he was feeding the animal in Pingleshwar in Kutch border district. He died on his way to the hospital. Here's what happened.
Gadhvi would regularly patrol the border on his camel
According to Inspector V V Khant, Jakhau marine police station, Gadhvi, 56, was from Singhodi village, which is near Naliya town in Kutch. He had been working for the Jakhau police for a long time. "He used to regularly patrol the border on his camel and while the state was on high alert, he had intensified patrolling," Khant told media.
Cop suffered a heart attack while he was feeding camel
Police said on January 24, Gadhvi was assigned patrolling duty in Pingleshwar. At 9:30 am, he went to the patrolling area with the camel and started feeding him. Moments after that, the cop got a heart attack and collapsed. "He was taken to Kothara but as his condition worsened, doctors advised his colleagues to take him to Bhuj," a police source said.
Gadhvi died on his way to Bhuj hospital
Notably, Bhuj is around 80 kms from Kothara. While Gadhvi was being taken to Bhuj in an ambulance, his pain increased and the ambulance had stopped at a private hospital midway, where Gadhvi subsequently died. Following his death, the whole village went into grief.
'We are trying to help the camel recover'
"He (Gadhvi) was cremated at his village with full police honors as he had died while on duty," Khant said. As Gadhvi did not return to the Jakhau police station, his pet camel, who is hugely popular in the village, got depressed and has now reportedly stopped eating and drinking altogether. "We are trying to help the camel recover," Khant said.
