Man accused of molesting 'Dangal' star gets bail
A businessman accused of molesting Zaira Wasim, a teenage Bollywood actor been granted bail by a Mumbai sessions court against Rs. 25,000. Vikas Sachdev, the accused, was arrested soon after the star alleged he had touched her inappropriately on a Jet Airways flight. MoS Aviation Jayant Sinha had said Sachdev would be put on the no-fly list if the allegations are true.
What happened?
The victim alleges a man sitting behind her on a Delhi-Mumbai flight on December 10 put his foot on her armrest and caressed her back and neck. "I ignored it the first time, blamed the turbulence." But when she woke up from a nap, she found his foot rubbing her back and neck. The lights were dim so she couldn't click a photo.
'Was very tired, was sleeping, foot touched her unintentionally'
However, Sachdev said he was travelling from Delhi to Mumbai after attending his uncle's funeral, was tired and slept on the flight; he claimed his foot touched her unintentionally. He even apologized to her when she raised an alarm, he said. His wife supported him. "He was feeling very low...he wanted to sleep." Sachdev's claims reportedly match Vistara's statement given to Mumbai Police.
Accused charged under relevant sections of POCSO, IPC
A co-passenger supported the accused. "I was seated in the same... class as the actor and the suspect. He didn't seem to have done anything apart from keeping his legs on the armrest of the seat where the actor was seated." His wife insisted he was innocent. "Maybe there was a misunderstanding." An FIR was lodged under IPC Section 354 and POCSO Section 8.
