Talking about budget allocation for the Indian Railways, Finance Minister Piyush Goyal, during his interim Budget 2019 speech, announced capital support for the Railways to the tune of Rs. 64,587cr.
In doing so, Goyal set the capex for the Railways at a record Rs. 1.6 lakh crore for FY20, up from the Rs. 1.48 lakh crore allotted during the Budget 2018.

While announcing capital support for the Railways, Goyal said that the Railways had seen its safest years under the NDA government, emphasizing that there was not a single unmanned Railway crossing on broad gauge lines in India.
He added that the Railways' operating ratio was at 96.2% in FY19, and predicted that operating ratio would stand at 95% in FY20.

Commenting on the indigenously built, engine-less Train 18, now called Vande Bharat Express, Goyal said, "This is a major leap in indigenous technology and will help promote 'Make in India' further and create jobs." Train 18 is also India's fastest indigenously manufactured train.
