Bihar: Buddhist monk, accused of sexually harassing boys, arrested
On Wednesday, a Buddhist monk was arrested in Bihar's Gaya district for allegedly sexually harassing 15 child monks. The accused, Bhante Shanghpriya Sujoy, ran a meditation center-cum-school at Mastpura village. The boys have alleged Sujoy, who hails from Assam, sexually harassed them after calling them to his bedroom. He even thrashed and threatened them with dire consequences. Here's more about this shocking incident.
To police officers, kids showed body marks
All the victims are aged between six and twelve years, and had been studying at the center for one year. They narrated the ordeal to their guardians after which a complaint was registered. The minors also showed marks on their bodies to police officers who spoke to them about the abuse. They will be produced before a judicial magistrate on Thursday.
Not only abuse, police investigating trust which runs school too
After the complaint, DSP Rajkumar Shah said the matter is being investigated and the kids will be taken for medical examinations. Not only the abuse, police are also investigating the Prajanna Social Welfare Trust which runs the Prasanna Jyoti Buddhist Novice School and Meditation Center. SSP Rajeev Mishra said if fraudulent activities related to the trust were found, FIR will be registered against members.
Our kids are not safe
The parents demanded severe punishment for Sujoy. SSP Mishra said police protection will be given to the kids and parents at Assam Bhawan. This incident comes close to the heels of the rampant sexual abuse in shelter homes across the nation. Earlier this week, kids of a Gurukul in Haryana alleged seniors and staff members harassed them. We are clearly failing our children.
