Pakistan violates ceasefire along International Border killing one BSF jawan
A Border Security Jawan (BSF) was killed as Pakistani army violated ceasefire along International Border (IB) last night in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district. Constable Devender Singh was hit by a stray bullet through the loophole of his picket as heavy firing between the two sides continued for an hour. He was immediately taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Suspicious militant movement raised high alert in Jammu
The attack came barely 24 hours after suspicious movement of militants was observed by BSF along IB in near Kathua, sounding a high alert and search operations in Jammu. Army pressed helicopters into service during the search operation. Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on the forward posts in Manguchak area around 11.30 pm last night and were retaliated by the jawans at IB.
33 killed in 700 similar incidents along IB and LoC
33 persons, including 17 security personnel have been killed in over 700 incidents of Pakistani shelling along the IB and Line of Control in the state this year. There has been lack of activity along the IB over the past three months after intense border fights in January and February. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive in the state on May 19.
