Rhea's case against one of Sushant's sisters holds: Bombay HC
The Bombay High Court on Monday quashed a First Information Report (FIR) filed against Meetu Singh, one of the sisters of late film actor Sushant Singh Rajput. However, the court granted no relief to Priyanka Singh, another sister of the 34-year-old actor, who died under mysterious circumstances last year. Both Meetu and Priyanka had petitioned the court over a police case filed against them.
'Prima facie case found against Priyanka Singh'
"There is a prima facie case found against Priyanka Singh and there should not be any impediment against investigation against her," a bench comprising Justices SS Shinde and MS Karnik observed, LiveLaw reports. The court further observed that there was a case against Dr. Tarun Kumar of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital Delhi, who was also named in this FIR, along with Meetu.
FIR against Sushant's sisters was filed in September
In September 2020, the Mumbai Police had registered an FIR against Priyanka, Meetu, and Dr. Tarun Kumar, following a complaint from Rhea Chakraborty. Rhea, Sushant's former partner and a film actor, had alleged that his sisters committed forgery and arranged a fake medical prescription to treat his anxiety. The three were subsequently charged with forgery, abetment to suicide, cheating, and criminal conspiracy.
Fake 'prescription' might have led to Sushant's death: Rhea
"The deceased died only five days after he had obtained the said prescription, where he was unlawfully prescribed psychotropic substances at the behest of Priyanka and Dr. Kumar," Rhea alleged in her complaint. The sisters, on the other hand, said the complaint was filed for "ulterior motives," terming it, "an afterthought and only filed to digress investigation in the death of the late actor."
Sushant died by alleged suicide in June 2020
Sushant was found dead on June 14, 2020 at his apartment in Mumbai. His death was termed a case of suicide after an initial investigation by the city's cops. However, the actor's family filed a complaint against Rhea, 28, accusing her of drugging him, cheating him financially, and abetting his suicide. That case was eventually taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
CBI probe in the matter still on
In October last year, an expert panel of doctors from Delhi's prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), in its recommendation to the CBI, stated that Sushant had taken his own life and ruled out the possibility of foul play in his death. However, the CBI's investigation is still on, and the agency is yet to furnish its findings.
