#BJPOfficialWebsite down for second day; not hacked, claims party
The Bharatiya Janata Party's official website remained under "maintenance" for the second day on Wednesday after it was allegedly hacked, according to reports. The BJP website displayed a message that said they were currently performing "some maintenance" and will be "back online shortly". Several posts on Twitter claimed that those who "defaced" the website also left a meme mocking PM Narendra Modi. Here's more.
'Sorry for the inconvenience but we're performing some maintenance'
Attempts to visit the official website of the BJP, on Wednesday, showed a message that read: "We will be back soon! Sorry for the inconvenience but we're performing some maintenance at the moment. We'll be back online shortly!"
Video featuring PM Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel
The BJP's official website went down on Tuesday; while initially, an error was shown on the homepage of the website it was later taken offline. According to some users, the website had earlier displayed a meme and a video featuring PM Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, mocking the Prime Minister. Some Twitter users also posted screenshots of the meme.
It is just a technical issue, say BJP sources
"The website wasn't hacked. It's just a technical issue which is being fixed. No complaint has been lodged with the police. The website will be operational at the earliest," an anonymous source in the BJP's information technology cell said today.
We're trying to resolve the issue: BJP IT Cell head
Meanwhile, the IT Cell head of the BJP, Amit Malviya, today admitted that the party's website had experienced some of "transgression", according to IANS. "We are not filing any FIR with the police as the site is down only due to a technical glitch. We are trying to resolve the issue and hopefully it will be up by tonight or tomorrow," he said.
Some level of wrongdoing has happened, says a cybersecurity expert
"Some level of wrongdoing has happened. Someone did gain access to the website. BJP's website is one of the most active political websites here with a lot of content," said cybersecurity expert Subimal Bhattacharjee, according to an NDTV report. "It's good that instead of coming up with a back-up website, they are working to fix all the loopholes," he added.
Congress offers to help BJP get 'back up'
Meanwhile, Congress took a swipe at BJP over the alleged hacking of its website. "We realize you've been down for a long time now. If you need help getting back up, we're happy to help," Congress posted on Twitter along with a "hug" emoticon.
Here's what the Congress party tweeted
Wherever BJP is down, Congress will help it: AAP
However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) took a dig at Congress after it tweeted about BJP's website. AAP tweeted, "Just like what you did in Delhi! This election, wherever BJP is down, Congress will help it to get back up. As we said #CongressHelpingBJP." AAP claims Congress rejected its alliance offer in Delhi because of an understanding with BJP to "gang up against AAP".
