BJP leader Rupa Ganguly arrested after protest over student's death
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Roopa Ganguly was arrested on Thursday and taken to the Kolkata Police Headquarters, Lalbazar. The arrest followed her peaceful dharna at the Bansdroni Police Station, where she was protesting against the death of a schoolboy in Bansdroni. The boy had tragically lost his life after being struck by an excavator in Kolkata's Bansdroni area.
Ganguly accuses TMC councilor's aides in student's death
In an interview with ANI, the BJP leader claimed that those involved in the fatal incident were close associates of the local 113-ward Trinamool Congress (TMC) counselor. She detailed how the 14-year-old student was killed by a payloader en route to his tuition class during an unauthorized training session. "Locals complained that those four boys were drunk, and they are close aides of the local 113-ward TMC counselor," Ganguly told ANI.
Ganguly questions police inaction, alleges harassment
Ganguly expressed her frustration over the police's failure to apprehend the suspects involved in the incident. "For no rhyme or reason, the police arrested me and brought me to Lalbazar," she said, questioning why authorities were quick to detain her but slow in arresting those allegedly responsible for the student's death. She had been urging law enforcement officers to detain those she referred to as "goons" while staging a silent protest at the Bansdroni Police Station.
