Bihar: Woman gang-raped while taking dip in Ganga, crime recorded
A 45-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped on Monday while she had gone to take a dip in Ganga in Patna district, Bihar, police said. The accused recorded the crime which was then shared on social media. The two men, including the one who filmed the incident, have been arrested by Barh police, reports confirmed. Woman pleaded men to remember Ganga's 'sanctity', they didn't listen
The video purportedly shows the woman being dragged out of the river and raped. She pleaded the men to stop and asked them to remember the 'sanctity' of the river, whom she considered as 'mother'. But the men didn't budge and took turns to rape her. The video went viral late on Tuesday evening, after which the police swung to action.
Locals allege police didn't take action till video went viral
Locals claimed when the women approached the police, they refused to lodge a complaint. It was only after the video went viral, and superintendent of police (rural), Anand Kumar took up the case that accused were arrested. The two men were identified as Shivpujan Mahto and Vishal. Mahto, a driver by profession, had dragged the woman out of the river and recorded the incident.
Girl, who was lured by Mahto, rescued too
Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj confirmed the arrest. He added a minor girl, whom Mahto had lured to accompany him, has also been rescued.
