Bihar woman uses begging money to get toilet constructed
Despite the nationwide push on building toilets, government officials in Bihar refused to allocate funds to a widow who wanted to get a toilet constructed in her house. Helpless, the woman, Amina Khatoon, begged to collect the required money and finally got a toilet built. Though they didn't help her, but the district administration felicitated Amina on Sunday for her efforts. Here's more.
Spurned by government, woman gets help from mason, laborer
Amina, a laborer-mother of a young boy, lives in Pathra Uttar village in Bihar's Supaul district. Moved by her need, a mason and a laborer built a toilet for her without charging any wages, reported IANS. Amina claims that the block-level officials ignored her plea for funds, highlighting that vast gap between PM Narendra Modi's lofty vision for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and its implementation.
No district declared open defecation free in Bihar yet
Under Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin, the state government intends to declare Bihar open defecation free (ODF) by October 2, 2019. However, with less than two years remaining and not even one Bihar district ODF yet, NDA government's target seems too tall to be achieved. Aiming to construct 12 million toilets in rural India in five years, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched on October 2, 2014.
