What's the story

Heavy rainfall in Patna on Sunday led to waterlogging in several areas of the city, including the Bihar Assembly premises and bungalows of multiple state ministers. The city recorded 41.8mm of rain, causing flooding in areas such as Strand Road, Rajbansi Nagar, Boring Road, Bailey Road, and Patliputra Colony, reports said. The waterlogging disrupted vehicular movement and impacted several hospitals in the city.

Government response

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspected the waterlogged areas to evaluate the situation. He also visited various sump pump houses in the city and instructed officials to ensure that such waterlogging does not occur during heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitin Nabin called for an emergency meeting after receiving reports and visuals of the waterlogging from social media platforms.

The Bihar government has urged district administration officials across the state to remain vigilant as several rivers' water levels have been rising due to continuous rainfall over the past two days.
