Bihar: Aspiring cop found with her hand severed
A girl was yesterday found unconscious near the RPF barracks in Jamalpur, Bihar, with her right hand severed. She had recently cleared the written test for police recruitment, and was out to practice for the physical test, her family said. Cops suspect a case of personal enmity rather than involvement of a gang. The girl underwent a seven-hour surgery and is stable, doctors said.
Police recovered a sharp tree-cutting weapon from the spot
The girl, a resident of Dharhara village near Jamalpur, was headed to a field in the town's East Colony when the incident happened. Later, locals spotted her near the RPF barracks. Her severed hand was found nearby. Police also recovered a sharp-edged weapon from the spot. She was initially taken to the nearby railway hospital, then shifted to a private nursing home in Bhagalpur.
Girl referred to Patna for medical assistance
A reconstructive surgery was performed on her yesterday evening. She has since regained consciousness, but doctors said they would be able to determine the success of the procedure "only after 48 hours. Police are investigating the case and will record her statement. "Things would be clear (after that)," a cop said. Meanwhile, she has been referred to Patna for advanced medical care.
