'Fake' doctor performs surgery watching YouTube videos; teen dies
A 15-year-old boy from Saran, Bihar, died after a "fake doctor" allegedly performed gallstone surgery on him by watching YouTube videos as a guide. According to the boy's family members, the teenager was rushed to another hospital in Patna when his condition worsened post-surgery. He died en route and was abandoned at the hospital by the "doctor" and his associates who fled the scene.
Family recounts tragic events leading to teenager's death
The deceased, identified as Krishna Kumar, was initially taken to Ganpati Hospital in Saran due to persistent vomiting. His condition improved after admission, but "Dr." Ajit Kumar Puri insisted on surgery. "He conducted the operation by watching videos on YouTube. My son died later," said Chandan Shaw, the boy's father. The family members said they were unsure of Puri's medical qualifications and suspect he may have been a fraud.
Grandfather alleges surgery conducted without family's consent
The boy's grandfather, Prahlad Prasad Shaw, also claimed that Puri began the operation without the family's consent. "The doctor sent the father away on an errand and started operating...without the family's consent. The boy was in pain. When we asked...he snapped and asked if we were doctors," Shaw said. "He was revived (with CPR) and then rushed to Patna. He died on the way. They left the boy's body on the stairs of the hospital and fled," he added.
Police launch investigation into teenager's death
When asked why they took the boy to Puri if they were not sure of his qualifications, the family members said they just wanted the vomiting to stop. Following the incident, local police have registered an FIR and sent Kumar's body for autopsy. Efforts are underway to locate Puri and other staff members from Ganpati Seva Sadan. Meanwhile, patients admitted at the nursing home have been left unattended as all staff members are currently missing, NDTV reported.
