'Scam': Water leaking from ₹1.5crore apartment ceiling, says Bengaluru techie
A Bengaluru-based software engineer, Ripudaman, has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the city's escalating real estate prices following a water leak in his ₹1.5 crore apartment. The 22-year-old shared an image on social media platform X, showcasing water dripping from his room's ceiling. In the post, Ripudaman stated, "My room in a 1.5 crore apartment on the 5th/16th floor is leaking water," criticizing the quality of construction in these high-priced buildings.
Social media users echo Ripudaman's real estate concerns
Ripudaman's post ignited a heated debate among users on the platform, with many sharing similar experiences and concerns about Bengaluru's real estate industry. The participants criticized developers for prioritizing profits over quality construction. They also suggested that Ripudaman investigate the cause of the leak and consider legal action if necessary. One user, Azhar Jafri, advised him to check for leakage in the floor above his apartment.

Real estate companies accused of exploiting pandemic losses
Another user accused real estate companies of inflating prices to recoup their pandemic losses from 2020-22. The user stated, "Real estate companies are taking advantage of us. Only a pandemic or a housing recession can bring prices back to normal. They want to cover their 2020-22 pandemic losses by increasing prices of the same matchbox flats to 1.2-1.5 Cr, which were 80L in 2019."
Heavy rains cause traffic disruptions
The water leak incidents comes as heavy rains lash Bengaluru. The extreme weather has excarberated the city's traffic problems, increasing congestion due to waterlogged roads. To recall, the city is also grappling with a severe water crisis. Despite residing in high-priced, high-rise apartments, many residents are forced to rely on water tankers for their daily needs.
