Bengaluru: Drunk Doctor in BMW mows down 17-year-old flower decorator
What's the story
An evening of partying turned into a nightmare for this 30-year-old doctor, who rammed his BMW into a young boy. The 17-year-old passed away.
The incident took place in the intervening night of Sunday-Monday, when the Bengaluru-based doctor was returning home, heavily drunk.
When he approached Domlur, he lost control of his car and ran into Kevin Richard, who was crossing the road.
Brutal
Kevin was flung in the air, dragged on, before dying
Upon impact, the 17-year-old was thrown up in the air, before he landed on the car's bonnet and was dragged on for a few meters, before he died.
The BMW, then hit the median, and finally stopped.
The accused, Ravi Teja A, came out of his car and apparently tried to give Kevin CPR, before taking him to Manipal Hospitals, where he's a trainee.
Cops said
'License will be sent to RTO with request for cancelation'
While Kevin was declared dead upon arrival, Halasuru traffic police took Teja for a blood test.
It was found that his blood alcohol level was 113mg/ ml, three times the permissible limit of 40mg/ml.
He was arrested on the spot, while his car (bearing registration number KA51-MF-6891) and driving license were seized.
The license "will be sent to RTO with a request for cancelation."
Fateful day
Kevin was returning home, hit on Domlur flyover
Cops said Kevin, a son of a flower decorator, was involved in the same job.
On that fateful day, he was returning from work with his two friends Santosh Kumar and Rithik, at around 12:30AM on Monday.
They were en route to Domlur and had just reached the first ramp of Domlur flyover opposite Kanankadasa BBMP Park, when Teja's car hit Kevin.
Cops said
Car also received blows: Bonnet, windshield, number-plate damaged
As per Teja, Kevin didn't die immediately and he tried to resuscitate him, but failed. While he was giving CPR, Santosh called the police.
By the time they arrived, Teja, a resident of Murugeshpalya, was already on his way to the hospital, with Kevin in his car.
The accident left his car with a damaged bonnet, windshield and a broken number-plate, said cops.
Charges
Teja got drunk at a party held in Indiranagar pub
When cops met Teja in the hospital, they realized he was heavily drunk.
He admitted that he got drunk at a party held in a Indiranagar pub and was on his way to his residence when the mishap happened.
Teja, a native of Andhra Pradesh, faces charges under IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
He's now in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
