Bengaluru: Congress leader hacked to death, police suspect gang rivalry

A local Congress leader was brutally murdered in central Bengaluru in the wee hours of Sunday.
The incident occurred near Garuda Mall in Ashokanagar around 1:00am when the victim, Hyder Ali, was returning home on a two-wheeler with a friend.
Reports suggest that a gang had been tailing Ali before they cornered and fatally attacked him.

Victim declared dead on arrival at hospital
Subsequent to the attack, Ali was rushed to Bowring Hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival.
The incident took place near the Ashokanagar police station, which enabled a swift response from the police.
Notably, Ali had earlier faced several criminal charges. He was also closely associated with MLA N A Harris.
Public reaction
Murder sparks tension among Ali's supporters
Ali's supporters gathered near the Bowring Hospital as news of the fatal attack on him spread.
Some were seen waving machetes and swords, sending panic among people and raising fears of unrest.
The police have registered a murder case and suspect a gang rivalry may have played a part. They are pursuing leads to nab the attackers.
