Stolen bank data of 1cr Indians available for 20p each
A police investigation has revealed that back account data of around 1 crore Indian customers was up for sale. What's shocking is that it cost was as little as 10 to 20 paisa per person. Police busted a module that stole data from insiders working in banks, call centres and authorized firms and subsequently sold it to criminals.
How police busted the data thieves
An 80-year-old woman from Delhi had lost Rs.1.46 lakh from her credit card. While investigating her case, police busted a module that stole the data. They arrested Puran Gupta, an East Delhi resident, who claimed he purchased bulk data for around 50,000 people for Rs.10,000-20,000 from a Mumbai-based supplier. This led them to recover stolen data of one crore people.

How criminals duped victims off their money
The criminals would pose as bank representatives and use the stolen data to dupe people into sharing information like CVV number and OTP. They would use this to transfer money from the victims' accounts. They used the pretext of encashing reward points, blocked cards, suspicious transactions to get people to share their details.
