What's the story

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has voiced his concern regarding the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh amidst the country's escalating political unrest. In a video, Ramdev claimed that fundamentalist forces are carrying out well-planned attacks on Hindu homes, temples, and businesses in Bangladesh. Calling the alleged attacks on Hindus, both shameful and dangerous, Ramdev said "the entire country will have to stand with its minority Hindu brothers with full strength."

Unrest escalates

Violence after PM's resignation

Ramdev's comments were made in the wake of a violent incident where a mob set fire to a hotel owned by an Awami League leader, resulting in 24 people being burnt alive. This violence broke out following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Ramdev urged India to make diplomatic and political efforts to prevent major incidents and, if necessary, intervene to protect Hindus in Bangladesh.

Domestic concerns

Ramdev alleges attempts to incite unrest in India

Ramdev also claimed that certain individuals within India were attempting to stir up similar unrest. "It is unfortunate that some politicians, religious extremists, and certain YouTubers are attempting to create similar unrest in India in the name of caste, religion, reservation, and the Constitution," he stated. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) reported that around 200-300 Hindu homes and businesses have been vandalized since Hasina fled to India.

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev's plea to government on minorities safety

Like Ramdev, spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev also urged the India government to "stand up and act at the earliest" for the safety of minorities in Bangladesh. To recall, on Monday, Hasina was forced to resign and leave the country after nearly a month of student protests over a controversial quota system. The protests later turned into a movement calling for her resignation. As many as 440 people ae reported to have been killed in the protests.
